Today was a busy and exciting day. Today was the day we finally told our parents about little Penelopoppy. Well half of our parents, anyhow. Duffy had called his dad in Utah and told him on Wednesday. I can’t really repeat that conversation, hahaha. Mike, Duffy’s Dad, was very excited for us. I really wish we could have told him in person. We WERE able to tell my in-laws and my mom in person…
We had my in-laws, Pat and Bob (aka. Grandma and Grandpa Jersey), over for breakfast this morning. They had some Easter gifts for the kids and we told them we had an Easter gift for them. They had no idea what the “gift” was.
Duffy made up a onesie with the phrase, “Grandma and Grandpa Jersey moved all the way to Clovis and all they got was….ME”. We wrapped up the onesie along with a grandma bib. When the time came to exchange gifts, we had the kids give the package to Grandma Jersey. She opened the gift and looked at it with a really confused look on her face. She looked at us, then back at the onesie. Finally she said, “Who’s pregnant?” I just looked at her, smiled, and said, “me”.
I have never seen her move so fast! She jumped up and gave me a big ‘ol hug (and when I say jump, I mean JUMP). Then she hugged Duffy, and then hugged me again. She kissed my belly, and then for reasons that are still unclear to us, she kissed Duffy’s belly! This was followed up with even more hugs. She was so excited! Grandpa Jersey was excited too. He gave us hugs and congratulated us.
The best part of surprising them is that about a month ago, we had gone out to eat with Grandma Jersey. Somehow, during dinner, we got on the conversation of her grandkids. She sat at the table and told us how sad she was sad that she would never have another grandchild because all of her kids were done having kids. She was a little sad that she wouldn’t have another baby around. Duffy and I were just egging her on and chuckling inside.
Apparently she has already been shopping. She’s pretty pumped!
