Boy, this day has been long, but it has been absolutely awesome. After we finished breakfast we drove to Albuquerque to have lunch with my mom and sister. Little did they know, we were about to spring our big news on them as well. They thought we were just getting together for a bourbon butter burger at the Standard Diner! In reality, we were there for something much more special…
We decided to tell my Mom the same way we told my in-laws. Duffy made her a little onesie that said, “I can melt my Grandma’s heart…what’s YOUR superpower?” Then, he put the due date at the bottom: October 27th, 2012. We wrapped up the onesie, along with some Grandma bibs. We were ready for the surprise.
Once everyone had ordered their lunch (and our cute little niece visited the potty…twice), we gave my mom her gift. She opened it and just looked at it. She looked so confused, but she had a right to be. If you’ve read the previous posts, you know that my sister-in-law, Myndi, is pregnant and due the day before us. My mom just looked at the onesie thinking it had something to do with my sister-in-law, Myndi. You could tell she was confused.
I looked at my sister and knew she had figured it out, but she didn’t want to ruin it for my mom. Finally, my mom said, “well, I’m not pregnant”, and she just continued to look at it. I couldn’t take it any more, so I told her, “mom, I’M pregnant!”
I wish I could describe the look of shock on her face. I’ll never forget it. Her and my sister both got up and gave us hugs. Then, everyone sat down and my Mom just continued to look shocked and amazed. It took her quite a while to wrap her head around it. I could tell, she was really, really happy for us. She knew that I really wanted to have a baby with Duffy and she also knew that the possibility of that happening was slim to none. Or was it!
My niece, Addisyn, has already informed me that I will be having a girl. She was pretty excited too. I’m so happy to have told our parents. Can’t wait for the big announcement on Duffy’s show this Tuesday.
